Zen and the Art of Mail

Mailinator will simplify your life and save you from spam. When you sign up for a service on the seedier side of the web, pick any email address @mailinator.com and check it at mailinator.com. Mailinator automatically creates an account for each incoming email, so there’s no sign up, no personal details, no future spam.

The fun doesn’t stop there. As Javarunner pointed out, the design of Mailinator is a study in kaizen—literally, “change for the better.” The Japanese concept of Kaizen closely resembles the scientific method. Modern programmers will recognize the emphasis on agile design, continual experimentation, and constant refinement. As Eric S. Raymond so eloquently put it, “Release early, release often.”

The fundamental aim is to reduce waste: activities with overhead but no value.

Challenge: Consciously look for refinements in your daily activities. Where could you improve?
